CAAM issues Safety Information 04/2026
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued Safety Information 04/2026 to remind Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations of the need to ensure maintenance tasks are planned, monitored and completed within the intervals specified in the Approved Maintenance Programme.
CAAM said the safety information also highlights recent occurrences of maintenance tasks overrun identified by the authority.
Human error and data entry risks highlighted
CAAM stated that most organisations use computerised maintenance tracking and scheduling systems, but those systems still depend on manual data entry.
According to CAAM, analysis of Mandatory Occurrence Reports received from January 2025 until May 2026 identified 10 cases related to maintenance tasks overrun, including overdue airworthiness directives, with human error identified as the primary contributing factor.
Aircraft airworthiness may be affected
CAAM stated that when a maintenance task exceeds the interval specified in the Approved Maintenance Programme, the aircraft no longer complies with its approved continuing airworthiness requirements.
The safety information states that the aircraft's Certificate of Airworthiness is rendered invalid in accordance with Regulation 27(1)(b) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.
CAMO organisations urged to strengthen controls
CAAM urged CAMO organisations to review human factors training, ensure personnel competency, strengthen maintenance task procedures, and conduct quality assurance and internal audits of maintenance task scheduling.
The recommendations are linked to CAD 6801 on continuing airworthiness of aircraft and CAD 6802 on Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation approval. The update is relevant to Aviation Malaysia coverage of Malaysia aviation safety and continuing airworthiness oversight.
