Saudi Arabia airspace risks covered by CAAM SI 05/2026
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued Safety Information 05/2026 for Malaysian air operators and flight operations personnel conducting or planning flights to, from or through Saudi Arabia, including the Jeddah Flight Information Region.
CAAM says the prevailing regional security situation may affect routes, destination and alternate aerodrome availability, airspace access and continuity of operations. Potential hazards include conflict-related activity, airspace restrictions, navigation-system interference and operational disruption.
Route assessments, alternates and GNSS contingencies
Operators are advised to review current NOTAMs, Aeronautical Information Publication material, airspace restrictions and recognised conflict-zone advisories before dispatch and during flight operations.
CAAM recommends a documented route-specific risk assessment covering flight levels, exposure to affected airspace, diversion options, fuel and possible sudden restrictions or closures. Destination, en-route and take-off alternates should also be reassessed as conditions change.
Flight crews should be prepared for GNSS degradation, jamming or spoofing, cross-check aircraft position with independent navigation sources and follow applicable abnormal or contingency procedures.
Monitoring and operational decision-making
Dispatch and operational control arrangements should provide effective flight monitoring and timely access to updated aeronautical, security and operational information. CAAM also calls for clear criteria covering rerouting, holding, diversion or return to the departure aerodrome.
The safety information does not replace an operator's responsibility to conduct an appropriate risk assessment or comply with applicable requirements and approved procedures. This Aviation Malaysia report reflects CAAM SI 05/2026 issued on 19 October 2026.
