CAAM releases June 2026 Waypoint Report

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has released the June 2026 edition of its Waypoint Report, titled Malaysian Aviation Industry Report.

The report reviews Malaysia's aviation industry performance, including passenger traffic, air cargo and the impact of regional market conditions.

Passenger traffic grew in the first quarter

CAAM reported that Malaysia's air passenger traffic grew by 11.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026 to 28.3 million passengers.

International passenger traffic increased by 13.5% year-on-year to 15.0 million passengers, while domestic traffic grew by 9.4% year-on-year to 13.4 million passengers.

CAAM adjusts passenger and cargo forecasts

The report states that CAAM revised its 2026 passenger forecast to between 103.8 million and 109.7 million passengers, citing Middle East geopolitical uncertainty among the factors affecting the outlook.

CAAM also revised its annual air cargo growth projection upward to between 9.0% and 13.0% year-on-year after stronger first-quarter cargo performance.

Aviation Malaysia industry indicators to watch

The report highlights 13.4% year-on-year growth in Malaysia's air cargo market by Freight Tonne Kilometres in the first quarter of 2026.

It also notes that international airfares increased by 13.4% year-on-year amid higher jet fuel prices and route disruptions.
